FIFA believes that the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup will be a turning point that will propel the sport to another level.

This year’s Women’s World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand. The idea is for the women’s World Cup to have the same popularity as the men’s tournament. Chief Women’s Soccer Officer at FIFA, Sarai Bareman, told NewsCorp Australia that more than 2 billion viewers are expected, twice as many as the previous year, which was held in France, where the U.S. team was the winner.

Additionally, a record attendance is expected, after selling 650,000 tickets. The turning point will not only push the game to another level, but also in commercial aspects, participation, popularity, and growth.

 The 2023 World Cup objectives

The ultimate goal of this World Cup is to have a tournament that rivals men’s soccer and to achieve equal pay for men and women.

Bareman points out that the men’s World Cup is the main source of revenue for FIFA and soccer; it generates $5 billion per edition. This is a precise objective for women’s soccer.

Despite efforts to improve conditions for women’s sports, several television networks have submitted low bids for the rights to broadcast the event. A situation that FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, has called unacceptable.

Berman states the following: “We do have to hold the line and make sure that for the good of the next generations of female soccer players, that they are given the opportunities afforded by their male counterparts.”

She adds that this is only possible by ensuring that its commercial value is recognized.

Finally, the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana (International Iberoamerican University) (UNIB) offers the Master in Physical Activity: Sports Training and Management.
