In a world increasingly dominated by technology and artificial intelligence, concerns arise as to whether these advances will displace professionals in the technology field.

However, there are certain professional skills that technology can never replace. According to a recent study by the firm Experis, there is a high demand for professionals in disciplines such as science, technology, marketing, and data, but at the same time, soft skills and human thinking virtues are gaining high demand in the working world. In this sense, creativity, ethics, and critical thinking continue to play a key role that AI cannot imitate.

Of course, the dominance of information technology continues to escalate relentlessly and continues to shape the modern era. Companies in Latin America are looking for highly trained professionals in these areas, but demand exceeds supply. This is seen in the 34% of recruiters who affirm this reality in a recent study conducted by Experis.

However, there are skills that are beyond the reach of artificial intelligence despite this growing demand. Industries need professionals with soft skills, which are increasingly valuable in today’s work environment. Thus, AI will not be able to completely displace the human factor.

What are the human skills that cannot be replaced?

Dr. María Ruiz Ortiz, expert in cultural history and digital humanities and director of the Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities at the Valencian International University, states in this regard that “the current times marked by the digital era require more than ever humanistic knowledge.” According to Ortiz, Humanities allow us to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the world in which we live.

In the digital world, an ethical concern arises that developers and multinationals are conscious of addressing. The good use of technology depends on it, and every area of technology has the responsibility to humanize its development. Therefore, it is important to implement a humanistic approach both in companies and in education, as well as to revalue the humanities as a professional profile with an important contribution.

Humanities contribute to the strengthening of soft skills, critical and divergent thinking, and different levels of abstraction, essential skills that are in high demand in today’s workplace. Additionally, creativity, perceptual skills, and complex thinking are added values in the new disciplines and roles of the technological era.

In short, human skills such as creativity, ethics, and critical thinking are still valued and required in the world of work and cannot be replaced by AI. Although technological disciplines have a preponderant role in the future, developing a comprehensive education that includes humanities is essential to have professionals prepared for today’s environment. With the right approach, humanities can become an attractive career option for those seeking to combine technology with human thinking.
