Today, cybercriminals use the camera on devices to spy on and invade people’s privacy.

Technology has become an elemental part of our lives; however, it has brought new concerns. One of them is the hacking of personal devices, through the cameras, that allows cybercriminals to spy on our daily activities. For this reason, many users choose to cover them with a sticky note to protect their privacy.

However, it is a reality to which we are exposed, and it can occur due to a wrong move in our devices. Usually, hacks occur when opening unknown links, using fake applications that pretend to be the real thing, downloading files from emails, or messages of dubious origin. Therefore, it is important to take into account these actions to avoid being spied from the camera of your computer or any other mobile device.

Tips on how to tell if your camera has been hacked

Various antivirus programs give some signs that could indicate that something is wrong with your devices. For example, ESET indicates that, if you have accessed strange links received out of the blue, it is recommended to check if the camera light is on, search for unknown files or applications on your devices.

Avast, for its part, recommends taking into account that the camera light can be activated or deactivated by hackers, review the applications that are open in the background, check the browser extensions that are often used, restart the device, and if the camera is automatically activated, it is likely to be tapped.

Norton emphasizes the importance of updating device passwords and not accessing links of dubious origin.

In addition, it is advisable to constantly update the antivirus software on our devices since they act as a barrier against cyberattacks.
