Getting a good night’s sleep is vital for our health

D12

Did you know that almost half of the adult population and 20% of children have trouble falling asleep?

According to the latest data from the Spanish Society of Neurology, in Spain, forty-eight percent of the adult population and twenty-five percent of the child population do not have quality sleep, and more than four million people suffer from some type of serious sleep disorder.

Good sleep is fundamental for good health. It is an essential requirement for human life. Poor sleep quality increases the risk of cardiovascular problems, diabetes, obesity, mental health problems, and neurocognitive dysfunctions, among many other things.

There are three main factors that determine good sleep: duration, continuity, and the ability to reach the deep sleep stages. Adults should sleep between 7 and 9 hours per night, with as few interruptions as possible. The more interruptions, the worse the quality of sleep.

It can be difficult to improve sleep habits, but there are a few things that are important to keep in mind: maintain regular bedtime and wake-up times and routines, exercise, eat light meals, and try not to use computers or mobile devices before bedtime.
