We work, learn, and do business. A recent study published in Comunicar and available on Zenodo proposes an interdisciplinary model that integrates STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) with the humanities and social arts (HAS) to promote AI literacy in higher education. Although academic in origin, this proposal offers valuable lessons for the business world, where responsible innovation is now a strategic imperative.

Beyond the technical: the union of knowledge

The report emphasizes that the teaching and use of AI should not be limited to the technological sphere. Combining scientific knowledge with ethical and social perspectives allows for more creative, inclusive, and sustainable solutions. For companies, this approach means recognizing that competitiveness is not achieved solely through algorithms and data, but through teams capable of integrating analysis, critical thinking, and sensitivity to the needs of society.

Strategic implications for organizations

Just as in higher education this model seeks to train well-rounded professionals, in the business world it aims to prepare leaders who are equipped to make decisions in complex contexts. AI is not only a resource for automating processes, but also a driver for redefining business models, anticipating risks, and building trusting relationships with customers and communities. Integrating the humanities into technological literacy helps mitigate ethical dilemmas, avoid negative impacts, and strengthen corporate reputation.

Artificial intelligence reaches its full potential when technical innovation is combined with an ethical and social vision.

Resilience as a driver of change

Recent history shows that the most resilient companies are those that have been able to adapt to technological disruption without losing sight of the human dimension. Incorporating interdisciplinarity into talent training promotes open innovation, drives creativity, and allows for flexible responses to an increasingly uncertain market. In this way, AI literacy becomes not only a competitive advantage, but also a commitment to business sustainability.

From theory to business action

The transition from this academic model to the corporate world can take the form of continuing education programs, partnerships with universities, and applied research projects. Companies that integrate this approach will not only enhance the skills of their teams, but also lead the transformation toward a more ethical and responsible market in the use of technology.
