It is not uncommon to find children with poor manners who show no respect for rules and people around them.

Poor manners in children are defined as a set of attitudes that show a lack of respect towards rules, authorities, and people. Children’s misbehavior is neither an innate nor an immutable trait. Rather, it is a learning problem that can be corrected through appropriate educational intervention.

For this reason, it is important to detect and correct this problem as early as possible for it not to worsen over time. This problem has negative repercussions on children, both individually and socially. It also impairs academic performance and emotional and personal development.

Some examples of such behaviors are: not greeting or saying “thank you”, not asking for permission, not sharing, and responding rudely or defiantly; it is also considered bad manners to tease or insult other children or adults, and not fulfilling obligations and responsibilities.

Consequences of poor manners in children

Poor manners in children are not only a moral or aesthetic problem but a social and psychological problem. If not corrected, these can have consequences on the child’s development and social interaction.

This problem hinders the socialization process of children because it prevents them from establishing positive relationships with other children or adults. As a result, they may be rejected and isolated.

Bad manners also affect a child’s school performance as it impairs their attention span, motivation, and interest in learning. It can also lead to discipline problems, absences, or dropping out of school.

If this problem is not dealt with in the child, it may compromise their future causing difficulties to fit into the working and social world. And over time, they will be more likely to suffer mental problems or be prone to violence or delinquency. Therefore, it is necessary to help them in time.
